| Title: Crossword Answer Sheet - Vocabulary - Test - Review Lesson: Here's another little activity that I use to help my students review for a test. I pass out a copy of the grid sheet which gives them the instructions. What the students do is use their notes to create an answer sheet for a crossword puzzle. They connect essential words on the grid, then write the clues on the back for each word. For example, if the student writes the word, "Washington" along the first line of the grid, they will put a small number "1" in the square that contains the "W". On the back, the students have written the words, "down" and "across". Under the word "across," the student will put the number "1", and then write the clue: The last name of the first President of the United States. Students will continue doing this for nineteen more essential words, putting numbers in the box that begins each word. |

Students can use what I call "fake" words to connect essential words. These are words like, "smile","dance", "happy", etc. These words don't count toward the 20 required. They are only to help students connect the "real" words. They will still have to include these on the clues page. Students get a little review on important words, and I've found that most of them like doing this assignment, because they like making the words fit into the puzzle grid. I've attached a blank grid in PDF format. Grade Level: 8th Grade Subject: History |
